Club 20 Foundation to provide sharpened focus on Western Colorado economic priorities
An era of renewed promise has begun on the Western Slope.
The Club 20 Research and Education Foundation has announced a mission to tackle the most pressing issues shaping the economic future of the Western United States. The independent and nonpartisan organization will sharpen its focus on the pillars of communication, energy, transportation and water. Leaders say this focus is critical to long-term regional prosperity.
“Our mission is to provide fact-based research and education that supports balanced policy and informed decision-making,” said Matt Solomon, chairman of the Foundation’s board. “By focusing on these pillars, we aim to ensure the long-term prosperity of our communities and industries.”
At the center of this effort is a groundbreaking initiative: the most comprehensive Energy Impact Analysis currently underway in the nation. The study spans the 80-year life cycle of every major energy source, from renewables and nuclear power to oil and natural gas. By evaluating costs, environmental impacts, and contributions to the economy, the Foundation hopes to bring clarity to often divisive energy debates.
“This project is a game-changer,” said Executive Director Wade Haerle. “It will provide the data and insights needed to restore reason and rigor to energy policy conversations, ensuring that decisions are based on facts, not assumptions.”
Denver Post Columnist Ed Quillen once quipped, after speaking at a CLUB 20 meeting, “there is no issue that can’t be solved with 200 more miles of four-lane highway or 60,000 more acre-feet of water storage, according to CLUB 20.” Although the words were in jest, they are still true today.
Water is and always will be economic development. Improved air service and better roads are as important today as in 1953. Western Colorado can and will provide energy to the Front Range. And the Western Slope will be part of the AI revolution.
The role of the Foundation is not to lobby, but to inform, Haerle emphasizes. Through research, analysis and educational resources, it aims to equip policymakers, businesses and communities with the tools needed to make evidence-based decisions in sectors that directly affect economic growth, Haerle adds.
As part of its renewed focus, the Foundation is inviting business leaders and community members to join its coalition and help support research, publications and public outreach campaigns.
“We need your help. We need your support,” Haerle said. “Please donate to the Foundation and support a bottom-up approach for Western Colorado”.
